The winner of the Erwin Felix Levi Bertaut prize 2026 is Dr. Laura Guasco

The European Crystallography Association (ECA) and the European Neutron Science Association (ENSA) are delighted jointly to announce Dr. Laura Guasco of the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart, Germany, as the winner of the Erwin Felix Levi Bertaut prize 2026.

The scientific achievements of Dr. Guasco are celebrated through the striking use of a waveguide resonance to permit neutron reflectometry to monitor hydrogen loading in thin films, opening the possibility of in situ studies, which was published in Nature Communications in 2022.

Her ongoing research, building on this advance, including a contribution from this year in Advanced Functional Materials, exhibits originality and deepening exploration of what can be done with neutron reflectometry in combination with X-rays evidencing the strong technical complexity of her innovative methodology.

Dr. Guasco is warmly congratulated by the European neutron and crystallographic user communities on her impressive achievement of winning the prize!
