{"id":10,"date":"2026-02-13T15:41:20","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T15:41:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ecanews.org\/sig-16\/?page_id=10"},"modified":"2026-06-30T08:22:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T08:22:12","slug":"scope-and-objectives","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ecanews.org\/sig-16\/","title":{"rendered":"Scope and objectives"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"color: #333399\"><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff\">The SIG 16 mission is to develop and strengthen links and interactions in the community of scientists studying condensed matter using magnetic crystallography<\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The topics covered by the SIG are :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Magnetic crystallography <b>tools and their development<\/b>\/implementation<\/li>\n<li><b>General use of magnetic crystallography<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><em>magnetic compounds, including\u00a0magnetic perovskites,\u00a0\u00a0magnetic functional materials,\u00a0molecular magnets, altermagnets<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>magnetic ordering,\u00a0 magnetic phase transitions,\u00a0complex magnetic structures (incommensurate and quasiperiodic)<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>co-representations, spin space groups and their applications, including altermagnetism<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>any field where symmetry is a key element to the understanding of properties<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><b>A<\/b><b>d-hoc techniques<\/b>, such as non-polarized and polarized neutron diffraction, or resonant X-ray diffraction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Its main scopes and activities cover several aspects, such as :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contribution to the <b>promotion<\/b> of magnetic crystallography in the research community (development and usage of tools for magnetic symmetry determination)<\/li>\n<li>Promotion of the common <b>magCIF<\/b> standard (\u201cgood practice\u201d)<\/li>\n<li>Promotion of a <b>magnetic structure database<\/b> built on the sharing of magCIF files<\/li>\n<li><b>Support<\/b> for symposia and microsymposia on magnetic crystallography related topics in workshops and conferences<\/li>\n<li><b>Collaboration<\/b> and joint actions with other SIGs to enlarge the impact of magnetic crystallography within the European community<\/li>\n<li><b>Sponsorship<\/b> of schools and satellite meetings<\/li>\n<li>Elaboration of <b>teaching materials<\/b>, such as tutorials and lectures<\/li>\n<li><b>Promotion<\/b> of pertinent publications in IUCr journals<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The SIG 16 mission is to develop and strengthen links and interactions in the community of scientists studying condensed matter using magnetic crystallography.
