Workshop on Hot Topics in Contemporary Crystallography
We are now a bit more than a century away from the first structural studies based on the diffraction of X-rays on crystals, but over this relatively short period of time, the level of complexity that we are capable of examining has multiplied literally by millions. In particular, over the last decade or so, we are witnessing a remarkable advance in experimental methods and theoretical approaches in crystallography which are putting this scientific branch of ours to the front lines…

Hot Topics in Contemporary Crystallography 3
Croatian Association of Crystallographers is proud to announce the third edition of its advanced crystallography workshop “Hot Topics in Contemporary Crystallography – HTCC”. The meeting aims to attract motivated researchers by in-depth tackling the fascinating developments and achievements of the experimental methods and theoretical approaches expanding over the last decade that put forward crystallography at the front lines of natural sciences. This year, the international programme committee of the HTCC3 has chosen the following three hot topics: Crystallography under extreme…

International school on aperiodic crystals
The Commission on Aperiodic Crystals of the International Union of Crystallography (IUCr) organises the 4th edition of the school "International school on aperiodic Crystals" (ISAC4). This school will take place in Portbail (Normandy) from September 8 to 14 2019. The targeted audience is clearly a non-specialist one: Phd students, young or experienced scientists working in the field of crystallography, chemistry, material science or solid state physic and willing to have a basic understanding of aperiodic crystals. The school will be organized on…

Hot Topics in Contemporary Crystallography 4
HTCC4 workshop will entirely be dedicated to structural biology. Over four intense working days, we shall cover techniques which go beyond classical crystallography, yet which complement it so smoothly: XFEL – X-ray free electron laser (HT1), cryo electron microscopy (HT2), NMR in macromolecular structural research (HT3) and biomolecular in-silico simulations (HT4). The principal HTCC target audiences are young(ish) crystallographers, electron microscopists, NMRists and researchers in in silico simulations dealing with biomacromolecular systems. Nonetheless, we count on researchers from the domains…

Three day online course in Powder X-ray diffractometry
PhD’s, postdocs and other researchers in the Netherlands and beyond are invited to join an online course in Powder X-ray diffractometry (PXRD) that will be held from 24th to 26th of November of this year 2020. With this online workshop and school on Powder Diffraction we intend to help participants to overcome the barriers to look into their data in greater detail. In a 3-day intensive course the participant will learn the basic theory behind powder diffraction and how crystallographic…

Celebrating Rosalind Franklin’s 100-year Birthday: New Structures, New Challenges
The Biological Structures Group of the British Crystallographic Association organises its virtual Winter Meeting 2020 on Friday 18th December. It celebrates Rosalind Franklin’s 100th Birthday with a line-up of worldleading international speakers presenting some of the newest and exciting achievements in structural biology, including a substantial number of presentations related to SARS-CoV-2. We are also delighted that Professor Matthew Cobb from the University of Manchester will open our meeting with a historical account of the life and times of Rosalind…

On behalf of SIG4 2020 was a particular year, keeping communication on the scientific scene on an extremely low level. We, therefore, decided to fill the information gap and organize a short workshop for keeping the community alive and updated on the progress in the field of electron crystallography. The workshop is organized in online format, which is new to all of us. We yet hope that it will allow for scientific communication and serve as a platform for discussions…
